New Zealand's ten commercial pāua fisheries are able to catch up to 919 tonnes of TACC each year. Reported catch has consistently been less than the TACC for five years due to voluntary catch reductions by quota owners.
PAU4 (Chatham Islands pāua fishery) contributes more than a quarter of the national 720 tonnes of wild harvest pāua.
The Minimum Legal Size (MLS) of Pāua. Fishers can collect pāua that are 125mm or more. Conservative fishers voluntarily opt to collect larger pāua instead, leaving juveniles in the water to grow and reproduce.
